Configuring for motion detection

One of the most powerful features of i-Catcher is its motion detection system that can be used for security/surveillance applications from protecting your office while you are out, to monitoring the birds that visit your bird table.

To configure i-Catcher for motion detection it is best to start by switching to the motion profile that is included in the standard installation, after starting i-Catcher click the Profiles button, highlight the "Motion Detection" profile and click the "Switch to" button.

There are many motion detection specific settings, although i-Catcher should work fine with the default values. Motion detection values can be changed from the settings menu. The common settings are as follows:

Light Conditions: If set to variable, i-Catcher will ignore motion when over a certain amount of the picture has changed. Ideal for overcast days where clouds cross the sun changing the whole image.

Zoom video stream on motion: Zooms the Video Stream when motion is detected (Increases the size of the image).

Zoom motion stream on motion: Zooms the motion Stream when motion is detected (Keeps the image size, but increases zoom level). this is ideal with the Track Crosshairs option.

Popup on motion: If i-Catcher is minimised it will stop the screen saver and pop up over the top of your current application. After a period of time i-Catcher will then hide itself again.

Track crosshairs: If zoom on motion is selected this option allows the zoomed image to track motion, try it and see. It gives the effect that the camera is panning to follow the motion.

These settings allow you to use motion detection to the full, you can also configure a whole range of alerts such as Email, FTP and Audio to be triggered by motion events. The archiving features allow you to continually record and keep images for as long as needed.

NOTE: If you want i-Catcher to startup using this profile please set it to be the default profile in the profiles menu.
