Hampshire Rose Bowl Installs i-Catcher

Cricket ground uses i-Catcher for CCTV & Crowd Safety

As part of The Rose Bowl’s expansion in 2006, an upgrade to the existing CCTV system was required to modernise the system with IP technology.

The Rose Bowl required a comprehensive and flexible digital CCTV system with the ability to use exisiting analogue cameras as well as modern IP PTZ devices. The Phase 1 requirements called for the use of two PTZ cameras capable of providing high quality images of the seating areas, and a software solution to record all motion events from each camera. In addition the management wished to have remote access to all the cameras (live and playback) from the internet and their PDA phones. The solution also had to be suitable for manned operation during policed international matches where a CCTV operator worked in conjuction with police and private security teams.

Genie Composite Day/Night cameras were connected to Axis 241Q high performance Video Servers located in existing cabinets around the ground and connected to the network infrastructure. Two Axis 214 PTZ cameras were chosen to provide moveable CCTV cameras with the required zoom capability. The i-Catcher Console CCTV software completes the system to provide a reliable, robust, high performance CCTV solution, capable of delivering advanced functionaility both locally on the Rose Bowl network and remotely via the internet.

It was decided to install version 3.0 of i-Catcher Console that includes such advanced features as people counting, loiter detection, and other advanced analytical functions.

The Rose Bowl now operates a modern IP-based CCTV system with the i-Catcher software at its core, integrated with a video capture system for additional projects of their choosing. The two Axis 214 PTZ cameras provide a highly flexible system for providing close-up CCTV images of the spectators, and the auto-tracking PTZ support from i-Catcher provides total control of the cameras' movement, even when unattended.

Since its installation, The Rose Bowl's CCTV system has been very succesful leading to several police prosecutions, and even generating local press interest:
