FTP configuration
|
This page explains how to set up FTP for Time-lapse and Stand
alone Motion Detection modes. For information on FTP in webcam
mode, look at the Webcam
tutorial.

|
- From the main window, click on "Alerts"
then "FTP...".
- Make sure that the "Enable FTP upload" is
ticked, and enter the Server name and your user details (Your
ISP would most likely have given you these.)
- If you are behind a proxy server, make sure "Use proxy"
is ticked, and enter its details in the boxes. (i-Catcher only
supports FTP proxies, not HTTP or SOCKS Proxies.)
- If you are behind a firewall, make sure "Passive
mode" is ticked. (You may need this for some Proxy
servers as well.)
- Enter a directory and filename in the boxes. (The directory
is relative to the home directory on the server unless you
prefix it with a "/".)
- In both Time-lapse and Motion Detection modes, i-Catcher
needs a directory of its own on the FTP server. It uses
existing JPG files to see what else it needs to upload, and it
overwrites the index.htm, and optionally history.htm.
- The page template option allows you to specify a template
that is used for the index.htm page. These files are normal
HTML files in c:\Program Files\iCatcher\Templates\ and the
images are replaced with place holders (e.g.
"[Pic1]" and "[Pic2]"). i-Catcher will
fill in place holders incrementally until a place holder is
not found.
- The "Maximum number of stills on server" allows
you to set a maximum number of stills on the server. The old
stills are deleted after the new ones have been uploaded, so
make sure there is enough free space.
- If you are in Time-lapse mode, select the interval at which
you want i-Catcher to do an upload. It can range from 1 second
up to 6 million years. (This interval is the time between
finishing an upload and doing the next one.)
- If you are in Time-lapse mode, you can now jump to step 14.
- The buffer and trigger boxes allow you to specify what
triggers an upload, and the minimum time to wait between
uploads.
- Ticking the "Upload history page" will make
i-Catcher upload a page with a list of all the stills on the
server in chronological order.
- "Only upload trigger motions", will tell i-Catcher
to only upload the amount of stills specified in the
"Trigger on" box. This stops i-Catcher uploading
motions that were insignificant (not enough to trigger an
upload)
- To test the settings, click "Test now", and
it will dial up if necessary. If the test fails, you will find
the error message in the Log (See logging on the main window).
-
Go back to the main menu, and click "Start
Monitoring". You should now have a working web camera.
